Breaking News: Former Baltimore Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby Sentenced for Mortgage Fraud

Former Top Prosecutor Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison

Convicted of Lying on Mortgage Application

BALTIMORE, MD - A federal judge has sentenced Marilyn Mosby, Baltimore's former top prosecutor, to two years in prison for lying on a mortgage application.

Mosby, who gained national recognition for prosecuting six police officers in the 2015 death of Freddie Gray, was convicted by a jury in February of perjury and mortgage fraud.

Evidence presented at trial revealed that Mosby had falsely stated that she had no outstanding debts on her mortgage application, when in fact she had a debt of $49,000.

As part of her sentencing, Mosby will also be required to pay a $250,000 fine and serve three years of supervised release after her prison term.

The sentencing marks the end of a tumultuous period for Mosby, who was once seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party. Her prosecution of the police officers in the Gray case was widely praised, but she later came under fire for her handling of other cases, including the prosecution of a squeegee worker.

Mosby's sentence is a reminder that even those in positions of power are not above the law. Her conviction and sentencing should serve as a warning to others that corruption and dishonesty will not be tolerated.
