IU Football: Cignetti Says WR Donaven McCulley is Day-to-Day After Taking Hit vs. FIU

Wide Receiver Suffers Injury

Indiana University wide receiver Donaven McCulley is day-to-day after taking a hit in Saturday’s game against Florida International University (FIU).

McCulley was injured in the second quarter of the game after being tackled hard by an FIU defender. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, but he was evaluated by team doctors and did not return to the game.

Cignetti Provides Update

Head coach Tom Allen said after the game that McCulley is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. He did not provide any further details about the injury.

McCulley is a key member of the Indiana offense. He had 10 catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the first two games of the season.

Impact on the Team

McCulley’s injury could be a significant blow to the Indiana offense, which is already without starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. Penix is expected to miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Indiana will likely turn to D.J. Matthews to start at quarterback in McCulley’s absence. Matthews has limited experience, but he has shown promise in his limited playing time.

The Hoosiers will need to find a way to replace McCulley’s production in the passing game. They have several talented wide receivers on the roster, but none have the experience or proven ability of McCulley.
